BRIEF HISTORY

Brief History

Within the heart of Solano, at the parish of Saint Louis Beltran, here, it stands a Catholic Educational Institution... our dear Saint Louis School. It was founded by a Belgian CICM Priest, the late Fr. Jose Waffelaert.

Saint Louis School had a simple but a modest beginning in 1834, with 20-30 pupils whose classes were held under the Father's Convent. It was granted the permit to operate oficially as a school by the Bureau of education on June 10, 1935, with Sister Magdala Verhuizen, as the head of the school.

Every school year, enrollment staedily increased, so that Fr. Waffelaert started with the construction of 1-story building to accomodate classes. By the end of school year 1939-1940, it had its first batch of Elementary graduates.

Later, the school had to close temporarily at  the outbreak of World War II, whose heavy bombings destroyed the school building. IN 1945, during the liberation, Fr. Waffelaert put up again temporarily a school building.

In 1947, Fr. John Van de Steen became the new School Director. He was the composer of the melody of the SLS School Hymn. With him in the administration were Sr. Dominica Tumaliuan, the Grade School Prinicipal, and Sr. Virgilia Soriano, as the High School Principal and also the composer of the lyrics of the SLS School Hymn.

In 1948, Fr. Joseph Van Den Daelen became the School Director. With the increase of enrollment, he put up the 2-story High School building. He also completed the left wing of the main building of the Elementary dapartment, and started the construction of the HE building.

In 1950, Fr. Hubert Dupont took over as an acting Director when Fr. Joseph went home to Belgium for vacation. Upon coming back to the Philippines, Fr. Joseph was assigned in Manila, thus, Fr. Dupont became the director. He mae the school's slogan "Character Makes a Man" and formulated the school's objective "For GOD and Country". During his term until 1963, the HE building was completed, and the frontal annex of the main building was constructed. He, too opened the St. Louis Trade School, the first Catholic Trade School in Nueva Vizcaya for Vocational courses.

Came next as the School Director was Fr. George de Busshere in 1964. during his administration was the construction of the left western wing of the main building which became the HS building (now, just a little portion is left after its demolition but is currently functional Senior High Building). The school ground was improved and the bleachers were constructed behind the Parish Church.

During the SY 1967-1968, when he met an accident during the construction of the church, Fr. Wilfred Deturck came in. He undertook the project of painting the classrooms and replacing all chalkboards to concave ones. He also constructed the 3-story concrete building for the seminary.

In 1971-1972, Fr. Jose came back to SLS and stayed as the Director only until 1983. The following year he was assigned as the President of St. Louis University, Baguio City. Fr. Wilfred Vermeulen became the School Director from SY 1983-1964 until SY 1995-1996. Throughout his administration, the new school quadrangle, basketball court and volleyball court was cemented stone walls were made higher, and steel gates installed. Fr. Waffelaert Clinic was converted into classrooms. The new 3-story building (formally Sisters' Convent) was completed.

When Fr. Wilfred Vermeulen left, Fr. Carlos Lindemans became the school director, which started during the School Year 1996-1997, up to 1998-1999. during his administration, Phase II of the new building was constructed. The school had a Dental Clinic, furnished with Dental facilities. Computer classes also started.

The turn-over of CICM Administration to Diocesan Administration took place during the SY 1999-2000. Fr. Vicente T. Tiam was assigned as the SLS Director by the Bishop of the Dioces of Bayombong, his Excellency Ramon B. Villena.

During his term as the School Director, the school's Vision-Mission was formulated. It was also during his administration when the Milleniuem Building was constructed. Foo lounge was put up, the stage was improved and the Adoration Chapel was made.

Reshuffling of Directors' assignments in the Diocese of Bayombong at the closing of the School year 2005-2006 gave way for the new face and another school leadership to set in.

School year 2006-2007 was the start of the administration of Fr. Edmundo C. Beronio, Jr. This young School Director who possesses the qualification had lots of good dreams for SLS... not only on the physical improvement of the school but also for the professional growth and advancement of his teachers and the employees to make the school more competitive.

Every School Year, SLS is reaping golden harvests with all the awards and recognition it receives from various competitions in the different levels (Provincial, Diocesan, Regional, and National).

Through the years, Saint Louis School is able to carry on with its Vision-Mission. as it lives up to the aspirations of its Founders... to give Quality Christian Education, and to develop responsible individuals who are committed to serve GOD, Family and country.
